Cause of these shootings

Updated: Sep 15

So many deranged shooters.  What’s the cause?  There’s room for gun legislation but ultimately, the phrase “forks don’t cause obesity” has truth too.

I feel compelled to reprise my thoughts on the shooting in Aurora Colorado in 2012.  I sent an email out then that was picked up and went viral on a website called The Skeptical Raptor under the heading “One Good Chiropractor and an X-ray could’ve prevented the Aurora shooting.”   They meant that to be snarky and sarcastic. When the article was forwarded to me I thanked them for understanding exactly what I said.

With the latest murders, Annunciation, a Ukrainian refugee on a train, Chicago school, Charlie Kirk…  we have an assortment of shooters.   A crazed 20 something who hates everyone, a 15 year old with a revolver in Chicago yesterday, and what appears to be a professional, likely with military training in Utah… still unknown identity.  If you go back a few weeks, you have Minnesota legislators and every other day street shootings in the Twin Cities and every urban center in the country.

If we are looking to prevent these shootings in the future, we need to identify the fundamental cause.   Here’s a few that have been suggested:

1.      Guns.

2.      Political divide

3.      Racism

4.      Video game violence

5.      Anti-depressants

6.      Mental illness

Each incident is unique and there doesn’t appear at first glance, to be a common denominator.  Sometimes an AR-15 semi auto is used, others like Chicago yesterday a revolver, and the single shot in Utah could be one of many different long guns, not necessarily and AR-15 and unlikely so.  Then, there’s people who use knives, drive vehicles into crowds, etc…  Weapons are not the common theme in my opinion.  Caine killed Abel with a rock.

That doesn’t mean I disagree that some measures can’t be enacted that may mitigate and make it difficult for those designing to harm others. There are people who clearly shouldn’t own a scissors let alone a gun. Which brings us back to other causes.

The targets of the violence are kids, different races, men, women, politicians, etc… there doesn’t seem to be a dominant theme for this either.  Some are focused on the political divide as it’s real and the rhetoric may be getting hotter.  But, you still are in control of your actions no matter what somebody says.  If somebody says “jump off the bridge” are you doing it?  No.  Because you’re not crazy.  If the governor says he’s hopeful for some “news” about the president, that doesn’t mean you need to create that news for him.

So, there are a couple things that are common features of almost all of the shootings.  Mental illness and anti-depressants.  No one is going to tell me that targeting and killing people is not mental illness.  You can’t do it unless your mind is not functioning correctly.

So, here’s where I started 13 years ago.  You simply can’t walk into a theater where Batman is showing and shoot the place up unless your brain believes the people there are a threat to you.  That’s abnormal.  That is a person who doesn’t perceive the world outside accurately.

Why?  I don’t know all the reasons this happens.  I know a couple of very common ones.  The first is the system that senses the world for you is not sending messages back and forth properly and accurately.  That’s the nervous system.  If so, it puts you in ‘fight or flight’ mode and you feel like you need to attack or run away all the time.  The solution to that is, as I said 13 years ago, find a chiropractor with an X-ray that knows what they’re doing. Correct the nervous system and the world will not seem such a threat anymore.  That concept right there is very difficult for people who believe in the pharm gods. Some feel that all matters health and mental health are a chemical imbalance to be balanced only by adding more chemicals. Certainly not normalizing the innate system that makes and processes those chemicals.

The other common cause is chemical poisoning by medications or other toxins. Psychotropic medications (these affect how you feel, mostly preventing you from feeling bad) are more and more commonly prescribed and almost all school shooters have had exposure to them.  Now, you can argue that’s not causative but related and I’d agree with that.  We don’t know for sure.  But “suicide ideation” as an effect isn’t the only ideation.  I’m pretty sure if you think of killing yourself, you could also think of killing others.  But to date, no drug company has included “homicide ideation” in the warning list.

And then there are real, brain pathologies that prevent processing the information, even if the signals I mentioned above are clear.  I’ve seen that in a young man that was born hydrocephalic, blind and with cerebral palsy.  As he aged, into his late 20s, his brain began creating sounds, voices actually, that weren’t real.  Now all that was happening above the spine.  And although there’s some influence from the spine, I was unable to normalize this for him.  So, for sure, there’s a list of causes of abnormal processing and behavior.

But simply…. Start with making sure the most common and easiest is working properly, the nervous system.  So, once again, I ask you to make sure your loved ones are healthy by getting them checked out to make sure their nerves work properly.

Pray for Peace,

Dr. Barrett

Forward to whatever website you wish, I’m old enough and wise enough to no longer care what mainstream medical/pharm consumers think. The pharisees will be pharisees and I’m only to deliver the message because those who have eyes to see and ears to hear will understand.
