I’ve been asked many times what I think about flu shots. I will not recommend getting one or not getting one, it’s a decision you must make yourself. I will share with you data points that will help you decide and tell you what I do.
First though, let me point out that I don't subscribe to getting injections of a bunch of foreign material, DNA and heavy metals, to avoid being sick for a couple days. The consideration I would give this is only with respect to my risk of dying from any particular disease and whether or not the intervention, a vaccine in this case, could lower my risk of dying rather than being sick. I regard "catching" a cold or flu as an exercise for the immune system and inherently healthy. We are designed for this. All that follows is based on that philosophy.
Here’s the biggest data point: Pharm says they reduce the incidence of the flu by 2/3rds. That’s relativism. Actual data shows 1% risk reduction. Here’s the explanation for the difference. Out of 200 people, 3 will get the flu in any given year. So, your actual risk of flu is 1.5% if you are the average population. If you’re reading this, you’re not the average population, you are doing things the average population doesn’t. You get adjusted, you eat healthier and you likely take some supplements. So, your risk is lower than average.
Pharm says, if you administer flu shots to all 200 people, only 1 will end up with the flu rather than 3. So, they consider that a 67% reduction relative to the incidence of the flu across the population without treating the WHOLE popluation.
But, is YOUR risk is reduced 67%? No. Your risk was only 1.5% in the first place. But, reducing 3 cases to 1 case in 200 people means any one individual’s risk went from 1.5% to 0.5%, a whopping 1% reduction in YOUR risk. And, as I pointed out, readers of this blog are not the typical population. Your risk is lower in the first place so your benefit from a flu vaccine in not having a flu episode is even less likely.
All vaccine decisions require a risk benefit analysis. I just covered the benefit, 1% at best. It’s extremely small. The risk is harder to calculate. That’s because nobody’s quantifying risk data. Not the CDC, the drug companies, NIH, WHO…. Nobody. Nobody wants to know. But, they say they know and that’s the problem. They are flat out lying about the risks. They have no basis to say they are safe. There has never been a placebo control safety trial of any flu vaccine in the history of flu vaccines. (This is true of most vaccines as well) This would be called "misinformation" but as you know, the mainstream media collects 70% of its income from pharm advertising so what is really false is called true by them and anyone questioninng or pointing out the data is labeled conspiracy theorist, antivax and killing grandma. Mainstream media are doing to RFK Jr. right now. He is simply advocating for safety standards and full disclosure or risks and harms with respect to vaccines.
In the instance of flu shots, here's some of the known risks:
Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM)
CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy)
Optic neuritis / Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Brachial neuritis
Seizures
Peripheral neuropathy
Encephalopathy
Cerebellar ataxia
And, this is not a complete list, but you get the idea. You are taking on lifelong disease or death risk to maybe avoid a case of the flu for a few days.
Now, in balance, people die of influenza every year (except 2020 when it was changed to covid because dying of the flu didn't make any money for hospitals so everyone died of covid). We are back to baseline now that the covid money dried up so people die of the flu again. Most of whom are in long term care already or multiple comorbidities (other diseases such as COPD, diabetes… etc..). For those in long term care, suffering comorbidities, no sunshine, carb rich diets lacking nutrients.... the argument could be made, for this population, whose main risk of dying IS influenza and they are at the mercy of the system and helpless in doing the things necessary to get healthy again... well, if there is a person for whom this intervention may be worth the trade, it might be this group. That said, my mother in law, for whom I care deeply was in long term care at the end, we did NOT have her accept such a treatment because we actually brought her healthy food to supplement the crummy institutional diabetes inducing diet they serve. We also gave her probiotics, vitamin D and omega 3. She didn't succomb to influenza. Did she get it? Of course. You're basically captive in a building full of sick people. It's a very difficult environment. You're likely going to have to adapt.
What’s your risk of dying of influenza? I’m going to lastly point out, that healthy people do not succumb to a flu virus. Diseased people can be pushed over the edge by flu virus or strep or pertussis or whatever. Healthy people adapt and recover.
Like I said, I’m not going to tell you not to vaccinate or to vaccinate. You must decide. I’ll level with you and tell you I’ve never done this. I focus on keeping my immune system working well by getting adjusted regularly (keeps white blood cells active among other benefits), keep inflammatory junky foods to a minimum, I use lots of probiotics, Vitamin D and antioxidants. I've probably had the flu. I, like everyone, must adapt to pathogens in my environment and sometimes that means fever and not feelign great. I'd say once per year. But, I have zero concern that my body can’t figure out how to fight the flu virus as it has done every year for the last 64 years. I don't take things that interfere with healing, like Tylenol or anything to lower fever or stop a cough. I take antioxidants when trying to get through something like that becuase that's the immediate requirement. Adding more D or probios isn't immediately helpful. It's too late. It will help when I'm done though. Immediate help are things like Vitamin C, NAC, resevertrol, zinc lozenges if back of throat is an issue. But, that's about it. Oh, make sure to get adjusted more often as white blood cells are more active within 15 minutes of adjustment. And, I raise my temperature and try to sleep more. That's all. These things improve my health and ability to fight disease and recover.
Injecting vaccines does NOT improve your health one bit. that does not mean they don't "work" to reduce the incidence of their target disease. It means they compromise your overall health to maybe, possibly, potentially, make your body respond to that particular pathogen. Whatever else happens as a result of the injection, be damned.
If you would like help with getting healthy enough to withstand flu viruses or covid or whooping cough or whatever…. Please make an appointment to assess your overall health and take steps to reduce your risk. There is nothing difficult or complicated.
Blessings,
Dr. Barrett
PS "What about polio, Dr. Barrett? I remember iron lungs and the March of Dimes, do you want that to come back?" Most are unaware that polio incidence had decreased from the peak down to 10% PRIOR to polio vaccine widespread use. Why did polio decrease 90% with no vaccine?
